2010 Olomana Shootout-

Reese Suzuki, a sophomore at Iolani High School and a member of
their golf team, won the Amatour’s Olomana Shootout by carding
a 2nd round 3 under 68 to go with an opening round
of 71 to shoot a 3 under 138 to beat Eric Sonnenberg(72,71=143)
by 5 strokes. Eric had taken the 2 stroke lead on the front
nine after shooting a 2 under 34(the 1st hole played
to a par 4, so the front nine par was 36 and back nine 35) to
Reese’s one over 37. The last 5 holes decided the tournament,
however, as Reese needed only 5 putts on the finishing
holes,(and only 10 putts on the entire back nine) making birdie
on 14, 15, 16, and 18. On 17, he sank a 10 footer for par.
Reese gave credit to Olomana head pro Ganin Asao’s putting
lessons for his awesome putting. Eric’s putts on the back nine
just missed going in down the stretch on several holes, and he
had to settle for a 37 and a 2nd place finish.
Mike Kawate(75,71=146) and
Paul Kimura(72,74=146) rounded out the top 4 places. For the
second tournament in a row, someone hit a hole in one. Beau
Belbas made a hole in one at the Klipper event, and Paul aced
the second hole(148 yards) on Saturday using a 6 iron to jar the
shot on the fly. It was Paul’s 4th hole in one and
his second of the year.
The final tournament of 2010 will
be held at Kapolei Golf course on November 6th and 7th.
All exempt players please RSVP as soon as possible so that we
can get a full field for the last tournament of the year.
